News & Announcements
08/03 Final grades are posted on asULearn. Your letter grade is posted as a comment/feedback
on your final course average.
If you want to see your final exam, I will keep them in my office for at least a
year or two. You may stop by and look at it anytime I'm here.
I hope to have an answer key posted tomorrow morning.
If you ever have any questions mathematical or otherwise, don't hesitate to contact
me. I'm happy to help if I can!
Have a great summer! (what's left of it anyway)

07/27 Workshop #6 (.pdf) [Source: (.tex)] is due Thursday, July 30th.
Note: I miss calculated something when generating the elasticity problem and ended up
with a revenue function which has no maximum. So skip the part of the problem
on point elasticity where you are asked to find a maximum.
Also, be careful when computing the point elasticity. Notice that your model is for
price in terms of quantity, so when you compute the derivative you'll have dp/dq not
dq/dp. [point elasticity = -(p/q) * (dq/dp) = -(p/q) / (dp/dq).]

Workshop #5 (.pdf) [Source: (.tex)] is due Monday, July 27th in class.
07/17 Examples from today: Optimization (Section 3.4)
Workshop #4 (.pdf) [Source: (.tex)] is due Wednesday, July 22nd in class.
Test #2 is Monday. It will cover revenue, cost, profit functions and marginal
functions along with the limit definition of the derivative and derivative rules.
The first part of the test will be done "by hand" (no computers) and the second
portion of the exam will be done in Excel.
Old Exams
Tests #2 from Summers of 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013 are relevant as well as
Test #2 from Fall 2008 (except for problem #1 in part 1).

webbrowsers in the lab. You may need to download (i.e. save)
the pdf file and then open it up outside your webbrowser.]
07/14 Workshop #3 (.pdf) [Source: (.tex)] is due Friday, July 17th in class.
Please take note of the warning for problem #3:
Excel does not handle cube roots well. You will need to enter the function:
f(x) = (x-4)^(2/3)
as...
f(x) = ((x-4)^2)^(1/3)
instead. In other words, square first then cube root. If you get "NUM!" errors,
when doing computations in #3, this should fix the problem.

Test #1 and Answer Key have been posted.
07/10 Examples from today: Finishing Chapter 2 & Marginal Functions (Sections 2.4, 2.5, & 3.1).
07/09 Our examples were very similar. Here's the corresponding sheet from 2013...

07/08 Quiz #2 (.pdf) [Source: (.tex)]
Examples from today: Quiz #2 answer key & Supply/Demand/Market Equilibrium
Test #1 is tomorrow (Thursday).
You should know how to do the following...
Chapter 1:
*) Graph some data in Excel.
*) Know how to create a double-ended graph (add a secondary axis).
*) Create a piecewise function in Excel.
*) Calculate with functions in Excel.
*) Decide which type of curve best fits a set of data.
*) Find an equation for a trendline.
*) Use trendlines to predict values.
*) Use goal seek to see when an equation is equal to a given value.
*) Use goal seek to determine when two functions are equal.
*) Use a graph to decide which solution a particular guess will
lead to (when using goal seek).
Chapter 5:
*) Know how to compute simple interest.
*) Know how to use PV, FV, PMT, NPER, and RATE.
*) Set up an amortization table for a mortgage.
Chapter 2 (Sections 2.1 and 2.2):
*) Know how to find the equation of a line [Exactly].
*) Know how to find the equation of a line [in Excel].
*) Know how to "use" supply and demand functions.
*) Know how to find the Market Equilibrium.
