News & Announcements

12/12 I just posted final grades on AsULearn. Your (curved) final exam grade as well
as your final course average are posted. Your course letter grade is posted as
a comment on the final course average.

If you'd like to see you exam, I'll keep them around for at least a year. Just
      stop by my office sometime.

Even though the course is over, I'm still happy to help if I can. Always feel
free to stop by (or email) and ask about anything. :)

      Have a Merry Christmas!

12/05 We will have a review session Monday, December 2nd at 9am in Walker 309.
Bring your questions! I don't plan to do anything structured. I'll answer questions,
go over homework problems/examples, and I might provide a few more examples of
things that seem to have been missed.

To study for the final. Please look over Chapter 15 (don't expect questions
directly from 15.1 and 15.2 -- that was covered on test #3) and the supplemental
Line Integral Notes. You might want to check out a few problems from 14.5 (surface
area) as well. The supplemental handout (as well as the textbook) have a lot of
good practice problems. To get a good idea about what I might ask, you can look
at old final exams -- be warned -- the old exams were cumulative. You should skip
the "review problems". Also, don't forget to review line integrals with respect
to arc length (technically these were covered on the first test -- but they're
      coming back on the final).

11/27 Grades for Tests 1-3, Quizzes 1-7, and Homeworks 1-3 are posted as well as
a quiz, homework, and combined quiz/homework average. Your quiz average
was computed after dropping your lowest quiz score. If you turn in Maple
homework #4, you could potentially raise your homework (and thus quiz/homework)
      averages.

I will replace your lowest test score with your final exam score (if it helps).
I will also give you a 5" x 7" notecard on Monday, so you can make up a formula
      card for the final exam.

I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving! Stay warm!!

11/22 Maple Homework #4 (.mw) is due Wednesday, December 4th

11/11 Test #3 is Wednesday. It will cover Chapter 14 (except for 14.5 on

10/09 Dr. Vicky Klima kindly pointed out these nice applets demonstrating
drawing gradient vectors for surfaces: Gradient Examples

09/30 Test #1 grade have been posted on asULearn.

      Quadratic Approximations Handout (.pdf) and
Maple worksheet with Problem Answers (.mw) [HTML Export of Problem Answers]

Problems 1-10 are good practice. 11-14 are challenge problems.

09/23 I keep on forgetting to post a link to our supplemental notes...
      Supplemental Line Integral Notes (.pdf)
[We won't need the rest of them until the end of the semester.]

09/17 Test #1 is Friday. It will cover the part of sections 10.2-10.3,
      11.1-11.5, 12.1-12.5, & 15.3 which we discussed in class.

Old tests can be found here.

Test #1 from the last few semesters should give you a pretty
good idea of what to expect --- with the exception of line
integrals. Don't forget to study section 15.3 (that stuff
is not covered in these old Test #1's).

You can get an idea of what I might ask by looking at...

Fall 2012 Test #1: all of it.

Spring 2012 Test #1: all of it.

Fall 2011 Test #1: all of it.

                          Exam #2: 9

Possibly More Challenging Problems (From Honors Classes):

        Rutgers Fall 2007 Exam #1: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5a
                          Exam #2: 7

      Rutgers Spring 2006 Exam #1: 1, 2, 3a, 3b, 6a
                          Exam #2: 8

09/16 I discovered an unfortunate typo on Homework #1. The parameterization in
problem #2 should be divided by 50. So if you've already downloaded the
      file and worked on it, replace your "r -> stuff:" with "r := t -> (stuff)/50:"

Also, in part (b) of problem #2, I had intended you to plot at t=5 (not t=1),
if you'd like to leave this as t=1, that's fine. However, if you don't
rescale r(t), you won't be able to see the TNB-vectors (they're too small).

09/10 Maple Homework #1 (.mw) is due Tuesday, September 24th

09/06 Quiz #1 grades have been posted on asULearn.

      Parameterization Example (.mw) from today.

I will not be in my office Monday or Wednesday at 9am.
However, I will be back in my office at 2pm on those days.

08/30 I have slightly adjusted my office hours...

      Mondays from 9:00 9:30am until 10:00am
      Tuesdays 9:00am until 11:00am & 2:30pm until 5:00pm
      Wednesdays & Fridays from 9:00am until 10:00am

08/20 Maple adoption code: AP97261-DFDB4
      Maple webstore (choose "student")

With the above discount code you can download Maple for $75 (instead
of $100). Since Maple should be installed on every public
campus computer, you do not necessarily have to purchase Maple for
your home computer but many students find it helpful to have a home
      copy.

08/14 From Nate Wiegl (Math Lab coordinator)...
      -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-
Math Lab will again meet in Walker 303A...OPENING 2nd week of the
      semester (Mon. - Aug. 26).

      M & W (2 - 5pm)
      T & Thurs. (3:30 - 6:30pm)

We have a great set of paid tutors: Kyle Thomas, Maureen O'Donnell,
Tyrel (Jacob) Winebarger, Noah Hughes, Stephen Graham and
Kristen Crawford. Please have your students utilize this resource,
and come to me with any questions/concerns.

Encourage students NOT to wait until the day before an exam/quiz to
show up for the 1st time.
