Math 2130 Sections 101 & 103 Homepage
News & Announcements
12/12 I just posted final grades on AsULearn. Your (curved) final exam grade as well
as your final course average are posted. Your course letter grade is posted as
a comment on the final course average.
If you'd like to see you exam, I'll keep them around for at least a year. Just
stop by my office sometime.
Even though the course is over, I'm still happy to help if I can. Always feel
free to stop by (or email) and ask about anything. :)
Have a Merry Christmas!
12/03 Final Exam Reviews/Schedule
Friday (Dec. 5): Review session from 3:40pm until whenever in Walker 309
Monday (Dec. 8): Section 101 Final Exam 3-5:30pm in Walker 309
Tuesday (Dec. 9): Review session from 12pm until whenever in Walker 310
Wednesday (Dec. 10): Office hours -- make a request
Thursday (Dec. 11): Section 103 Final Exam 3-5:30pm in Walker 309
I don't plan to do anything structured during the review sessions. I just
plan on being available to work extra examples and answer questions. So
come prepared with problems that are troubling you. I'm not sure how long
the review sessions will go. We'll just do vector calculus until we're
tired out.
Our final exam will cover Chapter 15. The old final exams should provide
some helpful review problems. Be warned: Older exams may include irrelevant
review problems. Also, if you look through old final tests (usually
test 3's), you will find a few extra line integral and fundamental theorem
of line integrals problems.
I also highly recommend working through as many problems from the
Supplemental Line Integral Notes (.pdf) as you can.
Dont forget! You may have a note card (as provided in class). I won't be
providing formulas on the final exam itself.
Grades: I should have all Maple homework #4's graded and returned by
class on Friday. At that point I'll update everyone's final homework
and quiz/homework averages. Also, I will be replacing your lowest
test score with your final exam score - if it helps. So the final exam
has a big potential to raise your final grade!
11/25 I just deleted and then reloaded all grades for MAT 2130.
I dropped your lowest quiz before computing the average.
I dropped your lowest homework when computing the homework average
(right now almost everyone has a 0 on homework #4). Your homework
average could go up if you submit Homework #4 (due next Wednesday).
Your Quiz & Homework average is just the average of the quiz and
homework averages (quizzes count 1/2 and Maple homeworks 1/2).
Test grades are posted as well.
If you notice any grades look wrong, please let me know.
Have a great Thanksgiving! See you Monday.
11/21 Homework #4 (.mw) is due Wednesday, December 3rd.
This is the final Maple homework. We will have our final quiz on Tuesday.
I will drop your lowest quiz score (only the top 6 scores will count).
Also, I will drop your lowest Maple homework score. So if you feel good
about the first 3 homeworks, you may skip this final homework set.
11/12 Yes. The test was too long. I will pass back tests on Friday (at the
beginning of class) and give everyone 15 minutes to finish up. So if
you did not complete everything or if you now realize something you
did wasn't correct, you'll have a chance to fix it.
See you Friday!
11/07 Examples of centroids handout
We will soon be looking at material from our old handout...
Supplemental Line Integral Notes
(Don't worry about this until after the test.)
Test #3 is Wednesday. It will cover Chapter 14 (except for 14.5 on
surface area which we haven't covered yet) and 15.1 & 15.2.
You might want to briefly review section 11.7 as well
(11.7 is an introduction to cylindrical and spherical coordinates).

10/01 Homework #1 answer key has been posted.
09/30 Ok.........the tests are graded. The results are not great. But you have
a chance to fix that. I'll pass back tests (to those who don't yet have
theirs) tomorrow. Please redo the entire test (both the problems you got
right and the ones you got wrong). You may work them on notebook/plain
paper or you can print off a "fresh" copy of the exam...
Section 101 Test #1 (.pdf) and Section 103 Test #1 (.pdf)
Please place your new work on top of your old test, staple it all
together, and turn it in by Monday (October 6th). You are welcome
(and encouraged) to work together OR ask me/math lab tutors for help.
I will grade your corrections and give back (at least) half of the improvement.
For example: If Fred made a 60 on the test and turned in 90% correct
corrections, Fred's improvement is 90-60 = 30 points. So his new grade is
(at least) 60 + 30/2 = 75.
For those with high grades...I will make it worth your while. Do the corrections.
09/29 Quadratic Approximations Handout (.pdf) and
Maple worksheet with Problem Answers (.mw) [HTML Export of Problem Answers]
Problems 1-10 are good practice. 11-14 are challenge problems.
Tomorrow's (Tuesday's) quiz covers 13.3, 13.4 (except "differentiability") and the
quadratic approximations handout.
09/22 As mentioned on Friday, Tuesday's quiz has been moved to Wednesday.
09/15 Relevant line integral homework...
15.3: 1-7(odd), 17, 23, 25
From the supplemental line integral notes: Problems 1-7 on page 10.
Our first test is on Wednesday. It will cover the part of sections 10.2-10.3,
11.1-11.5, 12.1-12.5, & 15.3 which we discussed in class.
Old tests can be found here.
Test #1 from many of the past semesters should give you a pretty
good idea of what to expect --- with the exception of line
integrals. Don't forget to study section 15.3 (that stuff
is not covered in most of the old Test #1's).
You can get an idea of what I might ask by looking at...
Summer 2014 Test #1: all of it. [This has a line integral problem -- but may be a bit too long for 50mins.]
Fall 2013 Test #1: all of it. [This one has a line integral problem.]
Spring 2013 Test #1: all of it.
Fall 2012 Test #1: all of it.
Spring 2012 Test #1: all of it.
Fall 2011 Test #1: all of it.
Test #3: 6
Spring 2011 Test #1: all of it.

08/08 Syllabus, tentative schedule, and suggested homework pages have been posted.
We will be using Maple (a computer algebra system) this semester...
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Maple adoption code: AP97261-69A55
Maple webstore (choose "student")
With the above discount code you can download Maple for $75 (instead
of $100). Since Maple should be installed on every public
campus computer, you do not necessarily have to purchase Maple for
your home computer but many students find it helpful to have a home
copy.

From Nathan Weigl (the Math Lab coordinator)...
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Hi all,
Math Lab will be held MTWR 5-8pm in Walker 105 this fall. That is a
change in both time and location from last semester. The change is a
result of a University Tutorial Services request to hold lab in a
larger room because of some overcrowding issues last spring. We are
also going to be more intentional about separating students by
subject area this year when they enter the room.
Lab will officially open the 2nd week of the semester...
Monday, Aug. 25.
Encourage your students to begin visiting early in the semester, and
please let me know of any questions/concerns at any time.
Thanks.
Nate
