WARNING:
There are two conventions for characteristic polynomials and eigen-stuff.
One convention is to work with det(tI-A) and the other is to work with det(A-tI). Both
yield the same eigenvalues and eigenvectors, but for odd sized matrices characteristic
polynomials differ by a minus sign. Also, under one convention we solve (A-tI)x=0 and
the other we solve (tI-A)x=0. But again, both have the same solution set, so the difference
is merely on the surface.
