finish it soon and email me your answers...it should help you
prepare the Monday's test.
We worked on a little of Workshop #6 (.pdf) today.
It's due Wendesday, but you may want to get started on it
since it should help you prepare for the exam as well.
Test #3 is Monday. It covers 3.3 - 3.8 (min/max problems,
EOQ problems, piecewise functions, elasticity and point
elasticity) and 7.1 & 7.2 (approximating areas,
definite integrals, and interpreting integrals). We
discussed 7.3 today, but it will not be covered on Monday's
test.
Again, old tests can be found here.
Fall 2008 Test #3 questions 1, 2, and 3 apply.
Fall 2008 Test #4 questions 1 and 4 apply.

I keep on forgetting to say that the help lab
does not meet in 303B, but instead 307B (our
regular classroom).

Economic Order Quantities and Piecewise Functions
Workshop #5 due Friday.
07/23 Don't forget we have Test #3 tomorrow. The
Derivatives Practice worksheet (with Answer Key)
should help you prepare for the "by hand"
part of tomorrow's test. I would also recommend
that you start working on Workshop #4
(which is due Monday). Remember that both
Math Lab and the 1030 Help Lab are open today.
(Math Lab from 2pm until ?4pm or 5pm? in 303A
and 1030 Lab from 6pm until 9pm in 303B.)
Here is the answer key for Workshop #2.
Today's examples: Mins and Maxs in Maple
(Right-click the link and choose "Save link as...")
Workshop #2 and Quiz #3 scores have been posted.
07/22 Quiz #3 and Answer Key
07/21 We will have a quiz tomorrow covering 3.2
(Finding derivatives using the limit definition.)
and 4.1 through 4.3 (basic derivatives plus
the product and quotient rules).
Don't forget that Workshop #3 is due Thursday.
Here is Thursday's Workshop #4.
[When you finish Workshop #4 (which will be due
Monday, July 27th), please turn in a
paper copy of your solutions and don't forget to
SHOW YOUR WORK.]
Also, here is a practice sheet for the derivatives
part of the test on Friday...

Old tests can be found here.
Test #2 part II. represents the "by hand" part of
the upcoming test. Test #2 part I. problems 2,3, and 4
cover sections 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1, and 3.2. Test #3
problem 1 covers 3.3 and 3.4.
An Introduction to Maple by Hutch Sprunt.
07/17 Examples from today (some marginal functions,
limits, difference quotients, and derivatives):
Examples from today.
We didn't get around to starting Workshop #3,
so we'll do that first on Monday. We decided
to cancel Monday's quiz and rearrange next
week's schedule a bit. I will have the revised
schedule posted soon.

*) Calculate with functions in Excel.
*) Decide which type of curve best fits a set of data.
*) Find an equation for a trendline.
*) Use trendlines to predict values.
*) Use goal seek to see when an equation is equal to a given value.
*) Use goal seek to determine when two functions are equal.
*) Use a graph to decide which solution a particular guess will lead to (when using goal seek).
Chapter 5:
*) Know how to compute simple interest.
*) Know how to use PV, FV, PMT, and RATE.
*) Know how to solve for times.
Chapter 2 (Sections 2.1 and 2.2):

*) Know how to find the equation of a line [in Excel].
*) Know how to "use" supply and demand functions.
*) Know how to find the Market Equilibrium.

(Note: There are 2 tabs on this worksheet. Switch
between them by clicking on the "tabs" at
the bottom of the worksheet.)
Maple adoption program:
We will be using Maple during portions of this
class. Maple is available on all lab computers,
but it might be convenient to have a copy of
your own. So, I have registered our class with
the Maple adoption program. This allows you to
get a student copy of Maple for $75.
You can go here to obtain the promotion code.
(The promotion code is "AP52234".)
